SKILLS BASED DIRECTOR
Barbara Schmidt has been working in the health industry for 35 years. For the past 25 years Barbara has worked predominantly in rural and remote Australia developing and implementing better health service management and delivery systems. She has held a number of senior executive management positions in Queensland and the Northern Territory. For the past 20 years she has been the Managing Director of Barbara Schmidt and Associates. The core business of Barbara Schmidt and Associates is working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, State and Australian Government and non-government organizations to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care services.
Barbara has expertise in primary health care systems design, health service accreditation, transition of services to community control and systems management for better chronic disease care. She has also lead work on a number of projects that have informed state and national policy with regards to how to improve primary health care and service provider responses to community needs. Barbara is currently completing PhD studies to improve implementation fidelity of chronic disease management systems.
