NUTRITION – Have you heard about the Remote Food Security Project?
The Nutrition Team at Apunipima have begun consultation with Cape York communities for the Remote Food Security Project. This is a collaboration with Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and the University of Queensland. This will focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander pregnant and breastfeeding women and parents/carers of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children aged 6 months to 5 years in Cape York and Central Australia.
The project aims to:
- Listen to people’s food security issues and community solutions
- Determine discount on healthy foods means for people’s diet
- Develop a community-led framework to improve food security and provide to policy makers for their attention
This project has come from Apunipima’s Board endorsed Food Security Position statement and feedback from community members in Cape York.
