Flash Glucose Monitoring Study
Apunipima is one of five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Medical services across Australia participating in the FLASHGM study. Apunipima has entered into the five year partnership which is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NRMRC).
This research project will use a new way of measuring blood sugar levels for people with type 2 diabetes using a new device which senses sugar levels under the skin without the need for fingerpricking. This new device is called the “Abbott FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System”.
This study is specifically design for Indigenous Australians with type 2 diabetes. Community engagement and consultation sessions have been conducted with health services along with other Indigenous Communities across Australia who are taking part in the study. Cultural aspects of this study have been discussed with Indigenous community leaders and health care workers and have been implemented in this study.
