COVID-19 vaccinations available for children aged 5 years and over
Everyone 5 years and older can now have a FREE Covid-19 vaccination through Queensland Health. Children aged 5–11 years will receive a smaller dose of the Pfizer vaccine while young people aged 12 years and older will receive an adult dose of the Pfizer or Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been tested and proven safe and effective for protecting against Covid-19.
To be up to date with your COVID vaccination you must have two doses of the same vaccine:
- For children aged 5–11 years, the second dose of the vaccine is recommended eight weeks after the first dose.
- For people aged 12–17 years, the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine is recommended 3–6 weeks after the first dose. The second dose of the Moderna vaccine is recommended 4–6 weeks after the first dose.
Covid-19 vaccinations across Cape and Torres communities are administered by Queensland Health or Royal Flying Doctor Service and in most cases you don’t have to book, you can just walk straight in!
All Cape communities have walk-in clinics operating each week. If you don’t know where your closest vaccination clinic is or you want to book a vaccination appointment, call (07) 3497 3442 or ask your local clinic and they will direct you where to go.

Queensland Health staff are doing their best to follow the planned vaccination schedule, however there may occasionally be last minute changes or cancellations of clinics due to outbreaks of Covid-19 or bad weather. Please remember to be nice to staff as they do their best to keep the community safe.
