Apunipima Proud Supporter of Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival
Apunipima Set for Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival 2017
In our 23rd Year servicing Cape York, Apunipima is excited to be supporting such a great event in the Cape.
At the festival we will be promoting Don’t Make Smokes Your Story and Sugary Drinks Proper No Good campaigns and encouraging people, after a weekend of immersing themselves in culture, kinship and competition to continue to make healthy choices around their smoking habits, healthy eating, alcohol and other drugs and physical activity.
At the Festival, Apunipima will have information at our stalls on the effects of smoking and sugary drinks. We will also be having physical activity games promoting healthy living for everyone to get involved in at the festival.
We will have a history wall, so people can see where we have come from and where we are now and the difference Apunipima has made to the people of Cape York.
Apunipima will be promoting their ‘Don’t Make Smokes Your Story’ campaign, which features people from the Cape sharing their stories about quitting the smokes. If you would like to be involved in the campaign, come down and see us at our Festival stall.
We will also be there to yarn with people about career and job opportunities in health in their communities.
At Apunipima we have a range of opportunities and not all of them are medical. We have bus drivers, cleaners, trainees, receptionists, administrators, managers and team leaders, media, health promotion, foot doctors, ear health, nutrition, to health workers, nurses and even doctors.
All are open to men and women alike. At Laura we will have plenty of people there to share their stories about how they started with Apunipima.
People can register an interest at any time by going to our website but on the day we will be happy to get peoples details and contact them afterwards with any opportunities that may arise.
We see Laura as a celebration of all things culture, kinship, language and storytelling through dance, and want to support that celebration by enabling people to celebrate good health and wellness.
