Proving that they are the stars when it comes to singing and performing songs about hygiene, Pormpuraaw Playgroup kids have developed a song book called ‘Breathing, Blowing, Coughing Song and Washing Hands Songbook.
Launched last month at the Pormpuraaw Primary Health Care Centre, the book was developed as part of Apunipima’s Photovoice/Healthy Kids program in partnership with Pormpur Paanthu Playgroup.
Good hand hygiene is important to maintain good health generally and to prevent the spread of colds, flu and other diseases. Children and parents at the playgroup were involved in putting together the lyrics for the songs and taking the pictures to go with them.
Health Promotion Officer, Fiona Millard said “The children and parents were delighted to see the results of their input developed into a book. This was a great opportunity to develop a community resource that will be shared with the playgroup, school, library and safehouse to promote healthy hygiene practices.
“The book launch and banners received a very positive response by community people and others who attended. It was great to see Pormpur Paanthu Playgroup, Pormpuraaw Council, Queensland Health, RFDS and Apunipima working together in partnership to bring this community book launch together.”
