Apunipima provides a range of primary health care services including Health Workers, Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health services that support family health, chronic disease care and healthy lifestyles. These link with community based services such as health promotion and community engagement activities.
Apunipima’s Dietitians visit Lockhart River every second week. Based out of the Queensland Health Clinic they work with you and your family to promote good nutrition.
They can work with you on a one to one basis to look at your nutrition status and to address identified nutrition related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, weight gain and obesity.
Our Dietitians also work with children if they are having any nutrition concerns such as slow growth weight anomalies, iron deficiency and anaemia.
If you are pregnant they will work with you address identified nutrition related conditions such as anaemia and diabetes and how you can tackle that now you are ‘eating for two’.
If you need to see the Dietitian you will normally be referred by the doctor for your first visit. Any other visits after that will be arranged with the Dietitian.
Podiatrist (Foot doctor)
Apunipima’s Podiatrist visits Lockhart River once every four weeks. Based out of the Queensland Health Clinic, the Podiatrist focuses on the prevention and treatment of chronic disease.
The foot doctor’s (Podiatrist’s) look at different conditions of the feet.

Although based in the clinic, the Podiatrist works from a number of venues across the community including the Wellbeing Centre. You will normally be referred to the Podiatrist by the doctor for your first visit. Any other visits after that will be arranged with the Podiatrist
Apunipima’s Diabetes Educator visits Lockhart River once a month. Based out of the Queensland Health Clinic, the Diabetes Educator works with people who have diabetes or are at risk of developing diabetes.
They offer one to one and group education to people at risk of developing diabetes, people with diabetes or gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy) and their families.
Our Diabetes Educators actively promote and undertake diabetes screening for people who are at risk and once identified, set up care plans to help prevent the onset of full diabetes.
Apunipima’s Diabetes Educator’s will also work with you as a diabetic to start to use insulin or help you manage your use if you are already using it.
You will normally be referred to the Diabetes Educator by the doctor for your first visit. Any other visits after that will be arranged with the Diabetes Educator.
Apunipima Men’s Health Worker Bernard David visits Lockhart River three days per month.
Apunipima’s Tackling Smoking Officer visits Lockhart River on a regular basis to deliver messages and information about tackling smoking and healthy options for a healthy lifestyle.
