Other Health Services in Kowanyama
There is a Primary Health Care Centre managed through Queensland Health. Kowanyama is staffed by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health workers and registered nurses full time with visiting medical staff provided by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Medical officers have clinics between 8 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday. Saturday and Sunday clinics are covered by telephone consultation with the medical officer at the Cairns Royal Flying Doctor Service base. Nursing staff (no doctors) are available for emergencies only.
Cape York Health and Hospital Services also provides a range of fly in fly out services including Child and Maternal Health; Dental; General Medicine; Nutrition Health Visits; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Occupational Therapy; Ophthalmic Services; Paediatrics; Sexual Health and Thoracic Medicine and Women’s Health.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service have a visiting Psychologist and Mothercraft Nurse.
