This study was conceived to see if it was viable to set up a sustainable transport and accommodation service for Cape York patients travelling to Cairns for treatment and medical appointments under the Patient Transfer Subsidy Scheme (PTSS).
The study is currently underway, with funding being provided by Queensland Health to identify whether the Alluna Hostel could be a patient accommodation site. Support is being provided by the Alluna Land Trust.
Funding is being sought to obtain a transport vehicle and a driver to provide the service in the interim, until a long-term solution is developed.
